Gas pains

The Erie Times-News featured Cambridge Springs Police Chief Eric Johnston and his efforts to save taxpayer money by patrolling on his bicycle when the weather allows. (He usually patrols in the department's SUV.) That's a job well done by local law enforcement.

I often see that same SUV leaving Cambridge Springs in the early evening and coming toward town in the morning. Does Chief Johnston drive it to and from work each day? I have no idea if that's the case, but the article does mention that it's the department's K-9 unit. I guess it would make sense that he needs to drive it to and from work if the dog is coming and going with him—and I have no idea how far he's actually driving it each way (or I guess even if he is at all.) Surely someone can enlighten me on this subject.

Unrelated to this article, but I had to share this SOMEWHERE.

I was driving North through Cambridge Springs last night and I as came over the big hill towards St. Anthony's there was a man - running - at 10:15pm wearing dark shorts and some sort of reflective belt thing. That's it. I never saw him until I was right up alongside of him.

So, to the man who chooses to run in darkness - please - wear a reflective shirt, hat, vest, anything, because you're going to get hurt. I drive slowly and cautiously and you're lucky it was me coming over the hill and not one of those morons who gets sideways speeding through there.

The Chief of Police does drive the K-9 Unit to and from work to carry Officer Bak. The Chief of Police can get called out any day or any time and he needs to have the vehicle at home to carry Officer Bak.

I credit the Chief for taking the issue of saving gas by patroling on the bicycle. More power to him!

This comment goes to the babbling person who was concerned about the SUV's K-9 unit and to it's whereabouts while you are "witnessing" the travels it makes...yet you are not sure if it is being used for work..but your pretty sure it is used for work...and if it was used for work that is great work! Heres your enlightenment...Blah Blah Blah! If the sight of the SUV's travels is so mind boggling that it must bother you enough daily to "comment" about it...then you really need to find a different route to travel so that you are able to keep a clear mind while you are using public roads that I must share with your worthless pondering mentality!
